Obituary for Shirley Anne Chief-Iken

Shirley Chief-Iken was a proud mother, sister, auntie, friend, devoted grandmother, but most of all her life was her only daughter and grandson. She enjoyed the simplest things in life, family. Shirley was an outstanding athlete. In her younger years she was a baseball player and then she became a goalie for the Ministikwan Islanders womens hockey team. During this time health complications forced her to stop playing. Shirley then dedicated her life to help teach young minds at the Island Lake school being a TA for 34 years. Her biggest pride was always her family, organizing all of the family gatherings such as Christmas dinners, BBQ's, and halloween functions to name a few. Shirley always greeted everyone with a smile and always had good words for everyone she mentored and greeted. Her house was always open for everyone who wanted to stop by and visit offering whatever she has. She had many hobbies and activities, she loved to listen to music and travelling to powwow's, listening to her nephews Little Island Cree and attending community events. She was a true romantic at heart, loved watching movies ,and she found love in Morocco where she travelled a few times and got married. Her heart was always at home and she spent most of her time being a devoted kokum. Her "Duke"was her main man,he was her pride and joy and she travelled to many powwow's to watch him dance. Throughout her health complications she never gave up, completing her ABE10 and planning to finish her ABE12 in Education. Shirley lived an amazing life being a fighter and not giving up, a role model to some, a friend to others, but most of all being a loving person to her family.
She is predeceased by: her granddaughter, Suri Annalynn Chief; her parents, Delma Chief(Pahtayken) and Joseph Chief; her maternal grandparents, Alex Pahtayken and Veronica Crookedneck; her paternal grandparents, William Chief (Okimakama) and Guskidew Piskwan; her sisters, Marie Alexander, Louis Chief, Rose Chief, Shirley Davis, Virginia Chief, Victoria Chief (Pahtayken), and Walda Chief; her brothers, Eric Chief and Harvey Chief Sr.
