Obituary for Laura Burgess (Kobelsky)
Laura Mae was born to Leo and Angela Kobelsky at the Wilkie Union Hospital, Wilkie, Sask. on July 2, 1956. She is the sixth child of nine. She was raised on a farm and lived only two and a half miles from Leipzig, Sask. They lived the farm life, raising various animals and working the grain operation. She took on the role of cooking, baking and sewing. At 17 she broadened her sewing abilities to include bridal attire. Laura attended her first year of school at the Convent in Leipzig, Sask., her elementary years were spent at the Leipzig School and high school years at McLurg High School in Wilkie, Sask. She moved to North Battleford, Sask. where she accepted her first job with Sasktel as a telephone operator. She met Melvin Burgess and were married June 17, 1978. They briefly lived in St. Walburg, Sask., and welcomed 2 girls. They then moved to Paradise Hill, Sask. where they built their Nelson Home up on the beautiful hill. Once it was built they then welcomed 3 more girls to complete the family. She was a full time homemaker for all of our childhood years. We cherished all her talents; countless hours at her sewing machine, canning, baking and super sale shopping. After many years of being a housewife, Laura and Mel decided to go their separate ways. Mom took a job at the Paradise Hill Home Care for a few years and then ventured to a more adventurous route and became a bar attendant at Smokin' Lens Hotel. She met so many people and was famous for her Thursday steak night salads.
We will miss our mom that taught us how to be strong, initiative, independent ladies. Mom took pride and bragging rights in her girls and grandkids. She loved to tell stories and events the grandkids or girls were doing or accomplishing. Her favourite pastime was playing cards, cheering on the family, dancing and finding great deals in every store.
Laura is predeceasedby: her dad, Leo Kobelsky.
She is survived by: her five daughters and ten grandchildren, Jennifer (John), Andrew, Edward and William Waters, Gwendolyn (Brent), Ian, Isabelle and Idalia Haeusler, Valerie Burgess (Ian Tindall), Donna (Mark), Lillian and Jaxon Simkin, and Deanna, Kiera and Owen Burgess; her mother, Angela Kobelsky; her brothers, Leonard (Anita) Kobelsky, Brian (Barbara) Kobelsky, Delroy Kobelsky, Maynard (Angie) Kobelsky, and David (Rose) Kobelsky; her sisters Phyllis (Raymond) Wirachowsky, Shirley (David) Grove, and Lynette (Kevin) Kuss; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
